Tenets of Taekwondo
Tenets of Taekwondo are recited at the start of each Taekwondo class at Sidekicks Martial Arts Academy in San Diego.
What are the Tenets of Taekwondo ? They are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. The result is Victory! Students learn the Taekwondo Tenets at Sidekicks Martial Arts Academy and they recite the tenets at the start and end of every class.
Here’s a video of Sidekicks students reciting the Tenets of Taekwondo. During classes at Sidekicks, each student gets an opportunity to explain what the tenets mean. Students give examples of the tenets. This is Taekwondo in action!
For example, students share what Courtesy means to them: Opening the door for someone or carrying groceries for their mom. Courtesy is helping someone who needs help, being kind or saying nice things.
Integrity means: Don’t cheat and don’t like. Always tell the truth, and do the right thing, even when no one is looking.
Perseverance means never give up. Even when things get really hard or you get bored or you don’t want to do them. It’s an important tenet to commit to if you want to become a black belt in Taekwondo.
Self-Control is keeping your hands to yourself. It means not hitting or shouting. It means discipline yourself.
Indomitable Spirit is keeping your spirit up, and being well. It means don’t let your friends talk you into anything that can cause you harm.
Add all these up and what do you get? Victory!
